Born in Puerto Rico in 1967, DD Dorvillier graduated from Bennington College in Vermont and began creating performances in New York City in 1989. At that time, she also began practicing Skinner Releasing Technique, with Joan Skinner and Stephanie Skura as well as Authentic Movement. In 1994-1995, her relationship to SRT deepened as she became a certified teacher. Since then she has taught SRT in many international contexts: Movement Research New York, Seattle Improvisation Festival Seattle, International Summer School of Dance Tokyo, TQW and ImpulsTanz Vienna, La Caldera Barcelona, Beta Local Puerto Rico, among many others. Sometimes she transmits SRT in its pure form, sometimes combining it with other practices of improvisation, observation, and composition, notably an approach she names “Touch Move Talk Write”, which she has been developing since 2009, as well as Authentic Movement.
In 2010, she moved to France, where she currently lives and works. Her artistic work finds its balance between the exploration of the sensitive body, choreographic construction, philosophy and language. How and where to dance and how and why to preserve dance – how these conditions influence each other – are key questions in her current research. In 2020, with the composer Sébastien Roux, she opened La Corvette, a multidisciplinary art space in Côte d’Or, France.
