Sophie Alder is a Leeds based dance artist. Since discovering SRT in 2007 it has become a great influence in her approach to teaching, devising work and life in general and is now an integral part of her practice. She is passionate about making dance accessible to all and champions its ability to empower the individual by developing all aspects of the self.
Sophie trained at the Northern School of Contemporary Dance and went on to further training in improvisation at the School for New Dance Development, Amsterdam. Over the years she has worked with many individuals and organizations such as Phoenix Dance Theatre, Yorkshire Dance and currently Northern Ballet.
Sophie has delivered a wide range of dance education, community and choreographic projects in the UK and internationally, working with under 3s to over 55s, complete beginners to professional dancers. She has travelled to Beijing twice to deliver projects for the British Council’s Young Advocates Programme in connection with the 2008 Paralympic Games and currently leads Northern Ballet’s Ability, a dance course for adults with learning disabilities with a focus on creating work for performance.
In 2012 she became a certified SRT teacher and has an MSc in Dance Science and Education from Edinburgh University.
