Information
Skinner Releasing Technique (SRT) is a pioneering approach to movement that has evolved from the principle that when we are releasing physical tension, we can move with greater freedom, power and articulation. Developed by American dance artist Joan Skinner, the practice is recognised for its ability to foster creativity, releasing new possibilities in how we dance and perceive.
Poetic imagery and hands-on studies enable a deep kinaesthetic experience of movement, encouraging the dancer to let go of habitual movement patterns, tapping into their imagination and body’s innate wisdom. Movement principles such as multi-directional alignment, suspension, economy and presence are explored resulting in a more deeply embodied awareness of how we move both inside the studio and in daily life.
The day will consist of 2 SRT classes from the Introductory series and a break of lunch. The studio will be open from 10am to allow time for arriving with class starting at 10.30am. Similarly we aim to finish around 3.30pm with space at the end of the day to continue moving, mark make or ask questions.
This class is open to all, no experience required.
Workshop led by experienced teachers Sophie Alder and Rosemary Spencer.
