About the class:
Each morning session is facilitated by one of the Skinner Releasing Technique (SRT) classes. SRT is a fundamentally gentle, permissive and playful approach to dance and movement that has evolved from the simple principle that when we are releasing physical tension, we can move with greater freedom, power and clarity.
In the afternoon workshop I will be offering sounding-and-moving as well as collaging practices from my ongoing research called vocalic somatics. Practices tap into attuning to our voices as weight and place within our bodies; dropping from our minds and assembling sensorially from the ground up moment-to-moment as something voice-like. We practise sensing, imagining and playing with what happens when we allow ourselves to be moved by the looplike experience of sounding the unlanguagable. Ideas will be introduced via tasks of which some involve touch. We will be working together, in pairs and small groups exploring how assemblages between people, the room and sounds begin to reveal something not yet known. Everyone is welcome and tasks can be adapted or modified.
About Franziska:
Born in Munich, Franziska Boehm currently lives in London, where she works as a dance artist, musician, and lecturer at London College of Music. In the process of completing a practice-based PhD at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, she also holds an MFA in Creative Practice from the same Conservatoire, along with a BA in voice and music education from the University of Music and Theatre Munich. Her artistic practice, ‘vocalic somatics’, explores sounding as a transformational power that gives way to emotional and sensorial release. Collaborating with dance artist Serena Ruth in their collective work ‘sounding sensations’, they delve into scoring spiritual experiences. As a performer Franzi worked with Duto Hardono, Lizzy LeQuesne, Pepa Ubera, Mira Hirtz and via MUSARC choir with Holly Herndon amongst others. Franzi’s choreographic works have been shown in Germany and the UK, featured in festivals like Hier=Jetzt and Resolution. She has a cat called RatBetty and when she isn’t in a studio creating or teaching, she is working in a Spanish Deli pairing wine and cheese.
